Before work begins
Replacing patio tile without overlooking the surface
We take patio tile installation projects in Paradise Valley, including discussions about replacing an existing finish. Show us how the patio connects to doors, steps, drains, and nearby paving. The new tile needs to fit those connections, not just the measured area.
For patio tile installation in Paradise Valley, we review the surface, material, layout, cut locations, joints, edges, and transitions before work begins.
Decide whether the existing patio finish needs removal
Loose tile, hollow sounding areas, cracked grout, coatings, and patches are useful details to photograph. They do not establish that the surface underneath is ready for another layer. Installing over existing tile requires a review of its bond, the proposed products, and the height of the complete assembly.
If removal is needed, the estimate should distinguish tile removal, remaining mortar or coating removal, debris handling, and preparation for the new finish. Damage or unsuitable conditions exposed during removal need discussion before additional work is agreed.
Resolve drainage, door thresholds, and steps together
Show where water collects or runs toward a door. Adding tile does not automatically correct low spots or an unsuitable drainage direction. Review the slab, existing joints, drains, and the proposed preparation before choosing the finished height.
Tile thickness and setting materials change the height at thresholds and adjoining paving. On steps, tread edges, risers, and the connection to the landing also need a consistent plan. Do not assume that a thicker finish or a new pattern can resolve an uneven step or structural movement.
Choose products for the actual patio exposure
A covered seating area and an exposed patio can have different sun and water exposure. Identify both in your photos, including areas that become wet. Check the specific tile or stone guidance for exterior use and the intended walking surface; appearance alone does not establish suitability.
Discuss movement joints, perimeter connections, exposed edges, and transitions before the layout is agreed. For an estimate, send overall dimensions, tile product details, door and step photos, drainage concerns, access information, and whether existing tile will be removed.
